Abstract

This project is on An assessment of the role of broadcast media in women mobilization during the 2015 general elections in Enugu state. The low rate of female participation in politics compared to that of their male counterparts in Nigeria creates the need to examine the situation in this study. This study examines the problems, first, defining the importance of women to participate in politics. The mixed method design which accommodates survey and focus group method was employed in this study and questionnaires were used for data collection, a survey method was used to generate data for quantitative analysis while the focus group method was used to generate data for qualitative analysis then the data was analyzed. The results reflect that broadcast media have a positive impact in mobilizing women to participate in politics. In summary, broadcast media is found wanting in fostering development for gender equality in politics. In recommendations, suggestions of ways to stimulate female participation were made. Finally, in conclusion, the study emphasizes that no sex or gender is more important than the other because in politics, intellectual ability counts more than physical energy.
