Appraisal of loan advances and credit control system in financial institutions – a case study of Access Bank Plc, Bida branch, Nigeria

This research work was undertaken to access an appraisal of loan/advances and credit control system in financial institutions. The research was intended to achieve the following objectives, to find out the several problems facing loan/advance recovery, the effects of loan default on commercial banks and the measures that will be used in credit control with Access Bank Plc. Bida branch as a case study. Relevant data were collected from both primary and secondary sources. Questionnaires were the main primary and secondary sources. Questionnaires were the main primary data collection instrument employed while data from various relevant publication constituted the source for secondary data. Upon the analysis of data, the following conclusions were drawn for the economy of any country to move on well as it is expected, it cannot do without the existence of financial institution within it since it cannot raise all the necessary fund needed and also customers attitude towards loan payment. On the basis of the above findings, it was recommended that commercial banks should use risk control measures to guide against loan default. Also, before granting loans, they should examine critically the project statement submitted by the customer or borrower which will help them to find out the realistic repayment pattern and also help them in knowing if the project is realistic based on the customer”s past performance.
