ABSTRACT

This research is on Design and implementation of kiosk management and allocation system. Case study NAITES mammy market. There is great need for us to follow suite in the advancement of technology, In the management and allocation of kiosks in market places to sellers this will be built as a Java web application developed with “Binding Attributes in contexts”, with a built-in Eclipse website environment and MySQL, which is basically organized in a tripartite in terms of functions: films, customers and administrator.

Kiosk management and allocation system are devised to offer large opportunities to sellers in the market.

Furthermore, this application was designed to display detailed information about the types of kioks available in a specific order. In this manner, the administrator is responsible for all functions related to the management of the kiosks and prospective renting customers. The administrator is, thus, able to add, delete, update, and request information re- lated to the kioks and those who rent them.

This particular project deals with the problems on managing a kiosk and avoids the problems which occur when carried manually. Identification of the drawbacks of the existing system leads to the designing of computerized system that will be compatible to the existing system with the system which is more user friendly and more GUI oriented. We can improve the efficiency of the system, thus overcome the drawbacks of the existing system

CHAPTER ONE

1.0   INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

This research is on Design and implementation of kiosk management and allocation system. Case study NAITES mammy market. Kiosk  markets and shops have a very ancient history, dating back to antiquity. Allocating this kiosk involves the process of making available this shops  to customers through multiple channels of distribution for them to earn a profit. The prospective kiosks renters typically make a variety of strategic level decisions including the type of store/ kiosk, the market to be served, the optimal product assortment, customer service, supporting services and the store’s overall market positioning. Once the strategic plan is the  place it is located, kiosks renters devise the allocation mix which includes product, price, place, promotion, personnel and presentation. In the digital age, an increasing number of kiosks owners are seeking to reach broader markets by selling through multiple channels, including both bricks and mortar and online allocating. Digital technologies are also changing the way that consumers pay for goods and services. Allocating support services may also include the provision of credit, delivery services, advisory services, stylist services and a range of other supporting services.

The term “kiosk” is described as a small store in the market that is basically used for the sale of products and services in a market. Shopping generally refers to the act of buying products. Sometimes this is done to obtain final goods, including necessities such as food and clothing.

kiosk occur in a diverse range of types and in many different contexts – from those seen on the streets and those seen in the markets. kioks on the streets may restrict traffic to pedestrians only. Sometimes a kiosk on the street has a partial or full roof to create a more comfortable shopping environment – protecting customers from various types of weather conditions such as extreme temperatures, winds or precipitation. Forms of non-shop allocating include online allocating (a type of electronic-commerce used for business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions) and mail order. China currently has the largest known kiosk market in the world.

1.2   STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The major and core issue that gave rise to this research work, is on the fact that there is great need for the computerized process of allocating kiosk to prospective market sellers, who after signing up to the website will be granted access to kiosk available to choose from from onward selection and payment, in an online kiosks allocation system the basic processes that can be accomplished include; online rental, and online purchase of the required shops,  this 2 processes can be accomplished after the user who wishes to use  any of this services gets online, gets a login access combination which include a username and password.  This issue is what the research seek to resolve by developing a secure and reliable website system that can function better than the previous one.

1.3   OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The project is designed to help in the management of kiosk allocation in the mammy market at NAITES. The main objective of the new system includes:

  • Website that allows the easy access of available kiosks.
  • The easy management of an online database of kiosks available for renting and buying by the website administrator.
  • Proper storage of the database of the website users can be accounted for by the website administrator.
  • To generate reports on kiosk occupancy and payments.

1.4      Significance of the Study

This project will present in a precise manner, the importance of online kiosks allocation. It is believed that if this research wok in full implemented will help reduce the rate of misplaced records for the allocation of kiosks and other related information’s that pertain to even payments. It is also expected that the study will benefit the owners of this kiosk, as they will now have a direct access to all information’s on the transactions they make with prospective customers. It is expected that the findings will expose with fake kiosk rental or purchase information’s. By this exposure, the kiosks owners and administrators will stand to tighten loopholes and ensure secured automated processes of doing business.

The research will also be beneficial to the researcher. This is because the study will expose the researcher to so many related areas in the course of carrying out his research. This will enhance the researcher’s experience, knowledge and understanding on real live application and solution solving techniques.

1.5 AIMS OF RESEARCH

The aims of this research, are as follows:

  • Minimize all paper works and manual records keeping.
  • Be user-friendly, time effective and well-organized.
  • Establish a website that displays available kiosks and payment features which allows customers to point and click their way through different kiosk.
  • Provide all information about the kiosk and services in daily transaction
  • Bring about easy ordering of the kiosks.
  • Comprise user friendly navigation.

1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The scope of this study is basically to showcase the actual implementation of kiosks management and allocation, in a convenient and affordable manner, so that those wishing to rent the kioks can do so.

The core scope of this study includes:

  • To maintain (enter, update, and delete) data on kiosks.
  • To maintain (enter, update, and delete) data on registered members
  • To perform searches on kiosks.
  • To perform searches on registered members.
  • To generate report on kiosks.

1.7 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

Some of the constraints encountered during this project design include the following:

  1. Financial Constraints: The design was achieved but not without some financial involvements. One had to pay for the computer time. Also the typing and planning of the work has its own financial involvements.
  2. High programming Technique: The programming aspect of this project posed a lot of problematic bugs that took us some days to solve. Problems such database connections using VB and MS Access database posed a lot of challenges.
  3. Few Literature Sources: The topic though seems to be a common term; it is not a popular topic to surf from the Internet. It had fewer literature sources.

RENTAL: The process of acquisition of kiosks.

ONLINE: Transactions that requires internet connection

ACESS: The permission granted, for the use of a particular online resource.

Database: A collection of logically related data to meet the information need of organization.

GSM: Global System for Mobile communication.

DBMS: Database Management Software that enable the user to define, maintain Control the database.
