Abstract
This project looks at Information repackaging in the era of ICT and the challenges facing catalogers and classifiers in academic libraries. This research work set out to investigate Information Repackaging in the era of ICT and the challenges facing catalogers and classifiers in academic libraries in Nigeria. It has been observed that information repackaging pose great challenges to the catalogers and classifiers in this era of information and communication technology in academic libraries. In the process of conducting the research therefore, a survey research method was adopted using questionnaires as the major instrument for data collection. Tables and percentage were used for data presentation, thereby enabling easy discussion and interpretations of data. Questionnaire were administered to thirty-six (36) professional staffs who are mostly catalogers and classifiers of academic libraries of The Federal Polytechnic Offa and The University of Ilorin, all in Kwara State through the adoption of purposive sampling techniques. At the end of the data gathering exercise, the study revealed that 21(56.9%) of the respondents were male while 15(40.7%) respondents were female, the study also revealed that 7(19.1%) out of the total respondents were chief librarian, 14(38%) were principal library officer while 10(27.2%) were senior library officer. However, this study also revealed that 29(78.5%) respondents agreed that information repackaging contributes strongly to the effective services of the library and its users, even though it changes the way information is stored and disseminated, it also shows that 13(35.3%) respondents admitted that the challenges faced by the catalogers and classifiers are poor and lack of technical and human resources, 11(29.9%) respondents indicated insufficient ICT knowledge by the catalogers and 10(27.2%) respondents admitted to poor funding of academic libraries budget.
