  • RURAL INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT A MEANS OF COMBATING RURAL-URBAN MIGRATION IN NIGERIA

    ABSTRACT

    Rural infrastructural development a means of combating rural-urban migration in Nigeria. The research employed content analysis for secondary data collection and survey research method for primary data collection. Hypothesis was tested using chi-square technique. The Harris – Todaro model (HT) as theoretical framework was used for the study. Finding of the research work includes among others, that respondents are not satisfied with the present level of rural development in Nigeria and while majority of respondents agreed that rural development is good strategy to stem rural urban migration in Nigeria. The research work is organised into five chapters. Chapter one covers the introduction, statement of problem, objective, significance, limitation, research methodology, and definition of terms. Chapter two entails literature review and theoretical framework, chapter three cover research methodology. Chapter four entails data presentation and interpretation last is chapter five that cover summary, conclusion and recommendation.

  • THE ROLE OF CO-OPERATIVE TOWARDS THE DEVELOPMENT OF RURAL AREAS IN BENUE STATE FROM 2013 TO 2015

    ABSTRACT

    This research is on the role of co-operative towards the development of rural areas in Benue state from 2013 to 2015. This research focuses on the role of co-operative societies on the development of Benue State. Study was carried out to see if really the area of study was being developed through co-operative societies in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State. Oral interview were carried out, several books were consulted and also, finding of registered co-operative societies and number of their members were carried out. From the findings, it revealed that those areas with co-operative societies gain more government attention than those without co-operative societies. The study reveals that for a government to achieve all round development empowering co-operative societies should be given utmost attention, and co-operative societies too should endeavor to live to their expectations.

  • THE EFFECT OF POVERTY ON RURAL PEOPLE OF GBOKO LOCAL GOVERNMENT

    ABSTRACT 

    This research is on The effect of poverty on rural people of Gboko local government. The study has examined the effects of poverty on rural people, human development became one of the most important facts of the development process. Meanwhile it is obvious that the two concepts of ‘human development’ and ‘poverty’ have a close relationship. Therefore, it is important to identify this relationship to overcome the poverty and increase the quality of human development. When the poverty incident is high, it automatically leads to human poverty and adversely affects human development. Nigeria has not paid attention to overcome the problem of poverty since her independence, and this has led to considerable amount of the population living below the national poverty line.

    This research focuses on key questions regarding rural poverty and human development in Nigeria. The main objective of the research is to explore the relationship between the poverty and the human development situation of the selected study area. The study used both quantitative and qualitative research method. Also relevant data for the study were gathered from the secondary as well as primary sources. The main primary data collection methods were questionnaire survey, household interviews and key informant interviews.

    The present situation of the village is a result of number of factors which directly or indirectly affect the rural economy in Nigeria . The study found that the main reason for their poverty situation is low income. Low income is connected to the employment situation of the village. In terms of the Human development situation the lack of educational attainment of the elderly people of the village has negatively affected their present living standard.

  • MANAGEMENT OF RURAL – URBAN MIGRATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA: THE CASE OF ANAMBRA STATE (2004 – 2010)

    ABSTRACT

    This research is on Management of rural – urban migration and economic development in Nigeria: the case of Anambra state (2004 – 2010). This thesis studied the Management of Rural-Urban Migration and Economic Development in Nigeria: The case of Anambra State. Development of a Country or State depends on its ability to manage and deal with challenges that come with development, such as over-population, pressure on facilities (roads, electricity), accommodation problems, environmental pollutions and other implications. In conducting this study, the researcher elicited relevant data from both the primary and secondary sources. Questionnaire was the main instrument for data collection. Three hundred and ninety- nine (399) copies of questionnaire were administered to the respondents of the three local government areas. Subsequently, the collected data were analyzed with simple percentage, and presented in frequency tables for easy comprehension. The hypotheses were also tested through chi-square ( From  the data presentation and analysis, and discussion of results therein, the researcher arrived at the following findings: The housing estate are mostly owned by individuals or private companies and are very expensive; the transformers provided are not consummate with the population increase; the state lacks available lands for agriculture as most of the lands are affected by erosion, floods and landslides. The researcher recommends the following: Government should be in partnership with some of these individuals and companies so as eliminate accommodations problems, government should be stain that materials used for transformers are adequate while making sure that the agricultural extension programmes are well financed in real terms as this will help manage the problems of rural-urban migration and bring about development.
