An appraisal on the health effects of poor housing in Oshiegbe community Ezza north lga, Ebonyi state.
Abstract
The problem of poor housing is as old as man himself and has been an alarming issue, especially in the slum and rural areas. It has constituted a serious health problem among the people of Oshiegbe community as a result of the lack of some facilities including sanitary conveniences. The core objective of this project is to find out the health effect of poor housing among the people in a bid to proffer solutions to it. The study design used was descriptive research design which was chosen due to the nature of the research work. 150 questionnaires were distributed among the people of the study area and 137 questionnaires were retrieved after completion which were used as the sample size, In determining the size, a stratified sample technique was adopted in selecting the population study. Questionnaires, observations and interviews were used as the basic instruments for data collection. Responses from the questionnaire were presented and analyzed using simple percentage and statistical tools. The research findings unveiled that there is an increase in the proliferation of diseases, and physical and psychological problems due to the existence of poor housing in the area. Therefore, recommendations/conclusions were made that government should provide solutions to this problem by health educating individuals on the necessity of residing in a well planned building.
