Abstract
Factors affecting substance abuse among adolescents in selected secondary schools in Ilorin, Kwara State. This project work examined the factors affecting substance abuse among adolescents in selected secondary schools in Ilorin, Kwara State. Among the objectives is to ascertain whether age has anything to do with substance abuse, to ascertain whether family background has anything to do with substance abuse, to determine the level of knowledge of adolescents about substances abuse, to identify different types of substances that adolescent’s abuse and to determine the frequency of substance abuse among adolescent. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research used descriptive survey to sample 120 students of select schools. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 120 questionnaires were distributed out of which 120 were retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that Nurses are to advocate for adolescents that have family issues and help them psychologically throughout the conflicting stage of adolescence, Nurses should teach parents to determine peer influence on their wards, The government should enact policies that discourage the sale and consumption of substances, punitive measures should be melted on individual found with the substance such as Alcohol, cigarette etc. Keywords substance, abuse, adolescents, secondary schools, and affecting
