Abstract
The knowledge, attitude and practice of patients on haemodialysis toward infection control in Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo state. This project work examined the knowledge, attitude and practice of patients on hemodialysis toward infection control in Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo State. Among the objectives is to assess the knowledge of patients undergoing on haemodialysis towards infection control, to evaluate the attitude of patients on hemodialysis towards infection control, to assess the practice of patients undergoing haemodialysis on infection control. And to health educate patients on haemodialysis about infection control. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research use descriptive survey to sample 44 respondents in the study area. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 44 questionnaires were distributed out of which 44 were retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that Use of temporary catheters is a common practice because it represents immediate access to circulation for haemodialysis but with high risk of infection, thus permanent access should be advocated, Strengthening and integrating infection prevention and control measures, training and health education of patients and their relations on infection control practice, protocol, rules and regulations, patients should be encouraged to engage in positive health behavior to prevent infection,,more positive attitude toward infection control were recommended and provision of conducive environment and regular water supply to encourage regular hand washing and adequate water quality for haemodialysis.
