Abstract
Choice of librarianship as a career by librarians of Imo State University Owerri, Imo state. The study aimed to discover the choice of librarianship as a career. Librarianship is the act of operating a library service as a librarian. The study is made up of five chapters. The research used descriptive survey design. Questionnaires on the choice of librarianship was used to collect data. The target population of the study was librarians of Imo State University which are made up of main library professional staff and teaching librarians representing thirty-four total population. The data collected were analyzed using percentages and frequency counts. Results from the data analysis indicate that 66.66% of the librarians desired to be librarians before going into the profession while 38.88% showed that what motivated them was job satisfaction 88.88% indicated that if given another opportunity that they would not go for another career. From the numerous recommendations, Nigeria Library association (NLA) should ensure that enough publications and articles are available in choice of careers covering the librarianship profession.
