An assessment of cash flow management in tertiary institutions

Abstract

This research focused on cash flow management problems of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, how the institutions managed the available cash to ensure the availability of adequate cash at all times led to the statement of the problem which was developed from poor cash decisions and policies. Cash flow management problems in tertiary institutions were reflected to enable administrators to identify the causes of cash shortages in their operations. Interviews and questionnaires were used as methods for collecting data, both the interview and the questionnaire were conducted among a few significant and relevant number of personnel within the organization, however, the interview and the questionnaire were slightly restricted to people in the bursary department of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Katsina. The major findings show that the revenue generated by H.U.K Poly, Katsina is lower than what is supposed to be generated. There is a huge need to improve the revenue generation of H.U.K Poly, Katsina, and other sources of revenue e.g selling of forms, registration fees, and collection of results can be used to improve revenue generation.
