Abstract

This project work focuses on assessment of low income housing programme in Nigeria. The provision of adequate housing in any country is very vital as housing is a stimulant of the national economy. Housing is a set of durable assets, which accounts for a high proportion of the country’s wealth and on which households spend a substantial part of their income. The research carried out during project work revealed some of the problems facing low income housing programme in Nigeria are problems arising from the fact that the government who has been largely responsible for the large scale of housing project mismanage the programme thereby making it impossible for low income earners to benefit from the scheme. The aim of this research work is to examine the problems associated with the management of housing in Kwara state. Housing in Nigeria is a very crucial issue, which deserves more attention than it is receiving at present. This sector is facing acute problems both qualitatively and quantitatively in nature. In order to find a lasting solution to the problem of housing deficiencies in the country, there is a need for economic physical and social planning to be incorporated into the housing sector. It is in this regard that the low income housing programme can be identified and the effort of government to assist the public towards achieving more successive housing delivery system in the country.
