Abstract
This study is on Appraisal of Credit Risk Management on Bank Performance. Post-consolidation era in the banking industry is accompanied by daunting challenges key among which is the need to develop better methods that will enhance efficient banking performance and service delivery. A key asset rearing urgent attention is credit administration and management which has always been a common problem affecting the banking sector even before the recapitalization. The fact is that focus has already shifted to retail and consumer banking service delivery, which is a clear indication that consumer financing and lending is a growing field of banking services in Nigeria. Questionnaire method was used in collecting primary data, while the documentary method was used in collecting secondary data. The study revealed that credit risk management helped in reducing non-performing loans in Nigerian banks. It was concluded that the dynamics of credit risk management are so much that there is the need for the operators to continuously review its application in the banking industry. It is recommended that the bank should strengthen credit appraisal procedures and adequate consistent monitoring of loans issued to borrowers.
