Abstract
The crux of the study is to examine the impact of youth unemployment on insecurity in Rivers State. The population of the study comprised of all the youth population in Rivers State which is 2, 017, 076. Using Taro Yamane, the sample size of the study was 400 respondents selected through a multi-stage approach. Descriptive statistics which include percentages, mean and standard deviation were used for the socio-demographic data and research questions, while inferential statistics such as Spearman Rank Order Correlation Coefficient Statistics was used to analyze the hypotheses. The study findings indicated that unemployment constitutes one of the causes of cultism, robbery, kidnapping, militancy, and political violence in Rivers State. It was therefore recommended amongst others Microcredit schemes should be facilitated to empower the unemployed youths to go into self-employment enterprise.
