Abstract
This project is on Challenges and opportunities associated with private sector participation in housing development. This research reveals the challenges and opportunities facing the private sector in its participation in property development in Nigeria. Emphasis was on Mbora international Housing estat Jabi– Abuja by determining its viability so as to encourage investments from the private sector. Property development has come a long way in Nigeria from mud huts clustered in open spaces to modern-day buildings for institutions (shopping malls, office complexes and residential). Accessibility to advances in building technologies and materials have further changed the entire concept of property development thus influencing the nature and types of buildings with more elaborate designs of sophistication moving property development from merely providing shelter but to a place of economic importance. The More Housing Estate provides affordable houses with more efficient methods and resource management thus enabling the promotion of a stable mortgage system which also promotes systemic building constructions, good estate management and a larger employment pool with qualitative services and products. Moreover, this study shows the performance of the“Citec international” in Mbora Housing Estate Jabi– Abuja within a view to encourage the private entrepreneurs in Nigeria to invest in property development because its economically significant[ and has lucrative profit]. The study confirmed that investment in property development in Nigeria is a lucrative and a lifetime venture. Also, the general level of private sector participation in term of property development is becoming more recognized and appreciating. This is to say that the private sector should be encouraged to come and invest in property development and as it is also a good source of foreign exchange as it is in another part of the world.
