Description
Abstract
This project looks at the Effect of diesel on Pistia Stratiotes water lettuce. Diesels are products obtained from the fractional distillation of crude oil at a temperature range of 2000C and 3500C. The presence of diesel in aquatic habitat inhibits the growth and distribution of aquatic plants e.g pistia stratiotes. Pistia stratiotes is a free-floating plant belonging to the family Araceae and order Arales. The plant is separated by numerous spongy cells in the lower parts of the leaves stem and roots. Diesel polluted water reduces the width of the rosette, the number of leaves and the biomass of pistia stratiotes. Due to the adverse effect of diesel polluted water on pistia stratiotes and other aquatic plants. It is thereby recommended that diesel spillage should be avoided in aquatic habitats.
