Factors affecting the current trends in the management of burns in surgical wards of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.

This project work examined the factors affecting the current trends in the management of burns in surgical wards of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. It also informed the health officers on the factors affecting the current trends in the hospital. Among the objectives is to find out factors affecting the current trend in the management of burns in surgical wards of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, to find out the level of awareness and knowledge of the Nurses on the current trends of burns management in the surgical wards of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, to determine the availability of equipment/instrument for the management of burn patients and to determine the practice of preventive measures among the nurses to the patients who had post-burns. Many medical and allied works of literature were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research use descriptive survey to sample 48 staff of surgical wards in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 48 questionnaires were distributed out of which 48 were retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that. Although safety precaution has been implemented in some schools but has not been effective as hoped. Therefore, safety precautions should be included in the school curriculum in order to broaden their knowledge on the causes, prevention and implication of fire outbreaks that result in burns injuries.
