Abstract
Financial management involves the capital sourcing (financing) and capital uses (investing) of firm, which should be efficiently managed if the firm must realize its objectives. Financing describes the management of capital sources, while investing describes the management of capital usage for organization like local government with wide ranging responsibilities for local services, and the promotion of sustainable development frudent and efficient management of financial resources is a task that can only be ignored to the risk of the community dissatisfaction and satisfaction. This is more so when events of ther ecent past have shown that to a large extent the traditional explanation for the poor performance of our local government i.e. inadequacy of fund is no longer convincing. There is a significant increase in the share of statutory allocation from the federation account from 10 to 20 percent. It is becoming increasingly clear that the answer to the problem of local government should be sought elsewhere one such area is to more efficient and effective. Financial management system with a strong emphasis on control and accountability. Orlu local government was chosen as a case study for the research. Carrying out the study, the researcher embarked on field works with some large dose of library works more concretely, the researcher employed the interview/questionnaire system by visiting Orlu local government with a view to getting firsthand information on the effort of local government have put in the financial management.
