Abstract
This research work focuses on Impact of internet usage on the academic performance of health information management students, case study of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. This project on the impact of internet usage on the academic performance of health information management students of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH). The project work is design to identify the sources of internet use among health information management students of UITH, to examine the effect of internet use on the academic performance of health information management students of UITH, to identify the implication of socio-media on the academic performance of health information management students of UITH and also to identify the problems associated with the internet usage among health information management students of UITH. The project work is a descriptive method and the target populations are the health information management students of UITH. The adopted technique is the convenience sampling technique and the adopted instrument is questionnaire, simple frequency and percentage were used for the analysis. The research work shows that internet usage has a direct positive impact on the student’s academic performance. The internet usage however enhances the knowledge of the students, provides necessary information for their academic work, facilitates personality developments among the students and also enhances their academic competencies. It was also shown that the most preferred source of internet for the students is their phones and social media does not have a negative impact on their academic works. It is therefore recommended that there is a need for extensive training programmes organized at regular intervals so that all categories of users can improve their efficiency in the use of the internet.
