Abstract
This research work is on Influence of social media on the performance of secondary school student as perceived by teachers. The study examined the influence of social media on the performance of secondary school students as perceived by teachers in Ilorin West local government area of Kwara State. The data for the study was collected through the use of questionnaire, which was administered to selected teachers in (10) selected secondary schools of studies area. And frequency count and percentage were used to answer research question, while t-test statistical tool was used to test the two hypotheses at alpha 0.05 significant level. All the analyses were carried out using SPSS 20 version. The following research questions were raised. (1) Does social media affect the academic performance of students (2) What is the influence of social media on students time devotion to the academic programme (3) What is the influence of social media on students reading habit. The study revealed that social media has a negative impact on the performance of secondary school students, however, teachers in the study area should take effective measure on guiding their students on how best social media, can be used to reduce the effect of social media on students academic performance.
