Abstract
This study on investigation study of value for money audit and public sector performance in Kogi State using Agricultural Development Project, Lokoja as the study area. The objectives of this study is to examine the relevance of value for money audit in the public sector, to find out whether there is significant relationship between value for money audit and the performance of public sector in Kogi State and to findout the effect of value for money audit in fraud detection and control in the public sector. The study adopted Agency and accountability theory, Data for the study were gathered from both primary and secondary sources. The population of the study is one hundred and eighty- five (185) and the same size is one hundred and twenty- seven(127). The analysis was done with the use of chi-square. The finding reveals that value for money audit has an effect on fraud detection in the public sector and it is relevant to the effectiveness and control of the public sector. The researcher recommends that value for money audits in the public sector should be equipped, supported and protected so as to be effective and efficient in their act of fraud detection and control. Effective internal control should be pursued in the organization as a means of reducing the tendency of fraud committed in the organization.
