Abstract

Isolation and identification of fungi from Nigeria currency note (a case study in Adoodoota local government). Currency note is used for every type of commerce and plays an important role in the life of human being. However, this combination of its widespread use and constant exchange makes the note a likely agent for disease transmission. This study was carried out in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, to ascertain the fungi that are present on Nigerian currency notes. A total ten (10) sample of #5 to #1000 denominations of both five (5) paper and five (5) polymer, were separated on their physical appearance viz mint, clean and dirty. Each money was collected from traders, filling stations, commercial buses. The fungi of the various denomination of Nigerian currency notes does not differ significantly. As the fungi load of various Aspergilllus niger, Aspergillus fumigatus and Candida albicans isolated from the various currency denomination – all currency notes in use may be potential sources of disseminating fungi pathogen no matter the type, apart from minted naira notes
