Description
Abstract
This research work looks at Legal deposit provision in a national library, public libraries, law and bibliographic control in Nigeria. The study examined the legal deposit provision in a national library, public libraries, law and bibliographic control in Nigeria. The survey research method was used while the population of the study was made up the management staff of the National Library of Nigeria, Nigerian management institute and university of Ibadan and the sample size was 11,130 collections of 2003 and 2010 legal deposit provisions. Data were collected using face to face interview technique. The study showed that the awareness of the availability of legal deposit and bibliographic control in Nigeria is high, but not very effective. In view of the identified problems that inhibit the legal deposit provision in the national library of Nigeria, one of the recommendations was that a regular and predictable national bibliography provides a cheap and effective avenue of marketing the publishers output to the national bibliography agency for coverage by the national bibliography.
