Abstract
The pace at which local government service is deteriorating in Nigeria is alarming. The fall in performance and productivity of the workers of the local governments’ situations are roped on poor management, undue political interference, poor remunerations, lack of prompt promotion, nonpayment of staff entitlements and other fringe benefits due to the staff in the service and the delay in payment of staff salary. It is in light of the aforementioned scenario that the research was conducted to understand the impacts of motivation on workers’ performance and productivity with particular reference to Dekina Local Government, Kogi State. Questionnaire was administered to gather information for data analysis and from the findings of the research, it was found that motivation has a great impact or effect on the employees’ performance in Local Government Administrations. It was recommended that training programmes should be encouraged as skills is very important as far as productivity is concerned there should be an encouragement for further studies because workers need to grow on their job, also there should be an adequate balancing of motivation and the motivation schemes in the local government council, employers should know the hygiene factors that do not always bring about the desired motivation behaviors work.
