Abstract
Nutritional status and energy drinking consumption pattern of undergraduate students in tertiary institution of Osun state. This study was carried out to examine the Nutritional Status and Energy Drinking Consumption Pattern of Undergraduate Students in Tertiary Institution of Osun State” (A case study of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Obafemi Awolowo University and Osun State University, Osun State). The study adopted a simple random sampling technique and a sample size of 150 subjects was selected for the study. Data on their demographic issues, energy drink consumption and use, anthropometric variables were obtained using a well-structured questionnaire. Results from information show their ages, gender, religion, marital status, level, income, weights, heights and BMI. The level of energy drink among the subject assessed was 72%. About 72.7% of the sampled students were Males and most of them were between 18 and 25 years old, and single. Although about 3.3% of the respondents were underweight, 73.3% has normal weight, 21.3% were overweight while 2% of the respondents were Obese. Most of the sampled students consume energy drinks and about 13.3% of them are current smokers. 24.7% added alcohol to energy drinks before consumption and a third of them claim they are heavy drinkers due to addiction, peer influence, or to suppress depression. Many consumed energy drinks for strength relaxation, nutrients and even to cool down their body temperature..
