Abstract

Statistical analysis of the effect of covid-19 on transmission. The study focused on assessing the trend of the reported cases of COVID-19 in Nigerians. The study adopted both descriptive and inferential surveys which obtained secondary data on reported confirmed and death cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria for the period of February 2020– October 2021. The study data were analyzed using simple line charts and trend analysis model. The result of the study revealed that prime period of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria in the third quarter of the year 2020, reaching over 69.000 confirmed cases as of December 2020, and since then, the increased growth has been inevitable till March 2021 when the cases stabilized until it spring up in high cases again in the month of September and October 2021. Also, the reported cases of death due to COVID-19 also increased correspondingly, as the cases started growing higher in the third quarter of the year 2020. The cases rose to their first highest point (peak) in March 2021, where the total death cases were over 2,500. Findings from the study analysis have revealed that the trend pattern of COVID-19 transmission and death are on the increase.
