Abstract
The Negative effects of industrial solid waste disposal on the environment (case study: Trans-amadi industrial area of Portharcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria) – 2023. Industrial solid waste disposal in the environment is predominantly untreated and is dumped in an unsanitary manner in burrow pits and unutilized open spaces. To examine the extent of environmental decay caused by various industrial waste disposal practices in the area. This research will adopt a quantitative approach in its methodology. This means that data collected will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques. The problem of industrial waste in Nigeria is increasing faster than its management. Successive governments have tried out different strategies to reduce to the barest minimum, the various effects of these products on the environment. Most of these strategies had little or no effects, especially in the urban areas. Few empirical studies have been carried out using appropriate strategies to access the real impacts of waste on the environment. This study is of such efforts, it tries among others to evaluate the impact of different waste materials on the urban environment with emphasis on PortHarcourt rivers state (Trans-Amadi Industrial Area). It is expected that the ensuring results and recommendation will have a wide practical application to other Nigerian towns/cities in the areas of industrial waste management.
