ABSTRACT
The role of the Franco-Nigerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Nigeria’s economic growth can hardly be overemphasised. Right from its establishment in 1985, the organisation has continued to play a vital role in promoting commercial interests of members, and at the same time contributing towards Nigeria’s economic growth. The notion is that the strained relationship between Nigeria and France prior to the establishment of the organisation gradually but steadily improved afterwards, especially in the area of commerce. In this study, the researcher examines the role of the Chamber in building a cordial relationship between the two countries as well as its contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth. Hence, the study examines the organisation from the period of its establishment in 1985 to 1991, highlighting the historical
overview of Nigeria and France relations, brief background of commercial ties between the two countries, aims and objectives as well as membership criteria and benefits of the organisation. The facts for this research are gathered from both primary and secondary sources. These include oral interviews, journal articles, textbooks, as well as internet sources.
