Abstract
The study identifies the role of commercial motorcyclists (Yan- Achaba) in the socio-economic development of Katsina LGA, Katsina state. The main aims of this research are to find out the characteristics of those that engaged in Achaba, the factors that motivate them to engage in Achaba in the research area, to determine whether Achaba serves as a source of employment, and brings about an increase in income and to establish the relationship between Achaba and crime in the area. The researcher employed the use of both quantitative and quantitative methods whereby questionnaires were used as well as an in-depth interview as an instrument of data collection. The questionnaires were distributed to Achaba respondents while the interview goes to Achaba union leaders and community leaders. Some strategic locations are where yan-Achaba will wait for their passengers and will serve as a cluster sample. Five places will be based on purposive sampling namely: Green House, Katsina Central Market, Sabuwar Tasha, Tsohuwar Tasha i.e. near First Bank and Tasha Kofar Marusa. The data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Finally, recommendation comments were made to minimize the challenges facing Achaba.
