Abstract

This study examined the Appraisal of Financial Control Mechanisms as a Measure to Prevent Fraud and Mismanagement of Public Funds using Federal Board Of Inland Revenue Services, Ilorin, Kwara State as a study. The general objective of this study is to examine the financial control and fraud prevention in the public section, and the relationship that exists between them using Federal Board Of Inland Revenue Services, Ilorin, Kwara State as a study while the primary objectives are: To determine whether current financial controls are relevant to prevent fraud in the public sector, To examine the impact of human errors on the operation of financial controls in the public sector, To access whether social environment and government target affect compliance with financial control in the public sector. The research design used during the course of this study was the descriptive survey research design in which a population of 25 staff of Federal Board Of Inland Revenue Services, Ilorin, Kwara State was looked into. The researcher made use of stratified sampling technique and the research instrument used during the course of this research was questionnaires. Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) was employed to analyze data in form of frequency tables in knowing whether current financial controls are relevant to prevent fraud in the public sector
