3,000.00

Description

ABSTRACT

The study was on assessment of the utilization of modern instructional materials for teaching business subjects in secondary schools in Delta North Senatorial District. The survey design was used for the study. Four research questions guided the study and three null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study consisted of all the 254 teachers of business subjects in public secondary schools in Delta North. There was no sampling since the population was not too large. A researcher developed instrument duly validated by experts was used for data collection. With the use of the Pearson Product Moment, the reliability coefficient correlation was found to be 0.80 which was considered adequate for the study. The mean statistics and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while ztest was used to test the null hypotheses. The findings of the study are as follows: electronic typewriter and smart boards are the only modern instructional materials that were available for teaching business subjects; other modern ones were not available. Business teachers claim to possess adequate competencies needed in the use of modern instructional materials. Business teachers utilized only telephone in teaching business subjects. Business teachers experienced problems related to the use of modern instructional materials. However, their problems are due to lack of technical skills. Based on the findings of the study, conclusions and implications of the study were indicated and recommendations were made. The government should endeavor to provide enough modern instructional materials to schools so that teaching and learning would be effective. Also, teachers should be motivated by giving all the necessary encouragement in order to be committed and productive.
