This research is on Development of an online examination system. Case study: YABATECH. Online examination systems are being used by an ever-increasing number of institutions to help reduce time deficiency, cost, exam malpractices such as impersonation and other unethical exam-related exercises that take place in most independent and national examinations. In this study, an explanation of how online examination systems are related to some traditional or manual based analysis, and techniques are presented and how online examination systems help institutions increase the efficiency of result generation. The project describes various limitations of current system methods and discusses possible solutions that can improve online examination system and makes it applicable to an even broader range of institutions. This project was carried out using tools like PHP to develop the front end and MYSQL for the back end of the software-online examination system. Evaluation of the project strictly shows that the software system can reduce 50% of the present examination malpractices problem in the current manual system. | ABSTRACT
In our today activities, most people have some kind of ?database? collections of CDs, students? academic entries, a phonebook of phone numbers and name entries, vehicles parts, records to be processed by a program. With a bit more precision, the term database means a logically coherent collection of related data with inherent meaning, built for a certain application and representing a ?mini-word?. A database management system (DBMS) is the software that allows database to be defined, constructed, and manipulated. Developing HTTP and RDBMS information service for federal polytechnic Nekede, owerri was the core of this project work. The integration which implemented, project the strength of the institution, provided most level of functionality and reduced the hitherto duplication of data so often the case with student particulars and the resultant stressful situation which the academic staff face in record manipulation.
In considering the design of a web driven relational database management system; it is obvious that RDBMS succeed to a very large extent which depends on the level of data structure while structure itself depends on the level of reliability, which can be achieved through the kind of tables and web interface to be rendered, and the requirements needed. It is my convictions that a closer look at this project work give insight and vital information to any interested person who wish to know the requirement for developing a HTTP and a relational database management system server to effectively implement an academic information system. The design has demonstrated its HTML web pages integration via ASP.NET programming by demystifying and defining what it takes to implement an Internet information service, HTTP server, a MsSQL relational database management system and a ASP.NET web pages.

1.1 INTRODUCTION
There is an outgrowing need for electronic accessories in a world where there is great necessity for speed, efficiency and perfection of work. Information factors efficiency, access to electronic device and relevant information is usually considered in the setting up of a relational database for a local network intranet. The internet has revolutionized the computer and communications world like nothing before. The invention of the telegraph, telephone radio and computer, set the stage for unprecedented integration of capabilities. The intranet is at once a location-based broadcasting capability, a mechanism for information disseminating and a medium for collaboration and interaction between individuals and their computers without regard for extensive location.
Presently, the internet represents one of the most successful examples of the benefits of sustained investment and commitment to research and development of information infrastructure. Starting with the early research in pocket switching, the government, industry and academic have been partners in evolving and developing this existing new technology. Terms like ?http:www.yahoo.com? and ?Uktehamum Edu? trip off the lounge of the random person on the street.
The aim of this project is to give an introduction to database and its integration with HTTP server. Before the specifics and theoretical, lets focus on some of the more generic aspects of this study.
1.2 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Information handling has gone beyond papers and is now at the discretion of the PC. Thus, this project is a conceivable effort to ameliorate the pressing need for a more web centric environment. Although its primary focus is not on web site design, yet it is inevitable. Since the emergence of the internet and its accompanying protocols, web use has intensified and so developing web applications is a promising way of reaching greater audience. Web use is not limited to the internet, but to virtually any application that can interface and communicate via web protocols. Intranet with the proposed design, staff, students and any authorized person can get all the available information from the polytechnic intranet integrated database. They can get their syllabus, academic calendars and results, register course, to mention just a few.
1.3 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Invariably, the problem that gave rise to this system study is from the continuous use of manual methods of dispensing academic details in the institution. The core is information management. As they say if you are not informed, you are deformed and he who is deformed cannot perform?. It would not be an exaggerated statement if I say that graduates from Nigerian institutions are deformed because they are not being well informed due to inadequate information acquisition facilities. It can be seen that information is not only important in this age but also the method of accessibility. No wonder it is termed as power, without it there is no headway. According to the U.S. Gen. Collins Powell (1995) ?Lack of information breeds analysis paralysis? without adequate information on any subject matter, it would be difficult to handle. However, the enatic nature of power supply, especially in third world countries has tremendously affected online information systems and remote access to queries, information down time and data corruption is inevitable.
In Federal Polytechnic, Owerri the method of information processing and sharing is done manually and therefore slows down the speed at which information is stored, processed and shared. To eradicate this to its optimum a robust database and web server should be implemented where the information no longer have to reside in man?s brain or on his desk but on the network and can be accessed by anyone who is privileged.
1.4 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The new system will bring about efficient and effective academic information system. The concise documentation of students and staff details will tremendously improve its timely decision support.
The project would also go a long way in fostering good perception of the information age in our various institutions and individual organization thereby breaking the ugly bone of continuous use of manual and archaic systems. It fosters on the in depth principles, rules and protocols of coding, scripting and hosting of database driven web pages. It will also help in making the processing of information as well as on the sport feedback faster and provide spring board for our young database developer. It also stirs and gives focus to our institutions of higher learning on the facilities obtained in the use of modern system of communication.
In order to produce a more classified knowledge of the subject matter, the researcher intends to describe the tools required to design and implement a functional Internet information service server, HTTP web server and a MsSQL relational database server for the institution through HTML encoded ASP.NET web interface. The objective of developing the system and procedure for the polytechnic is to ensure that end users are provided with requisite tolls and data that are cost effective and easily accessible.
1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
These research works critically explores the possible ways of demystifying the mystery behind database and related technologies, web hosting services, protocols and of course design, and encourage young programmers to joint the race without feeling interns to their counterparts in the development parts of the world.
Without shifting this focus to web site design, we might still be in darkness for the next twenty years and by then a new inventions might be made which can sentence us unto another one thousand years of Dark Age. The study will go a long way to cutting down on time wastage, inefficient use of statistical data, manual errors and duplication of efforts by both staff and academic personnel. It will also enhance efficient query and enquiring ensure security of records and assist the polytechnic in copying with the daily work load.
1.2 SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
Data not withstanding of its size cannot be too large to process. However, a guided approach is adopted to stay within limits for easy comprehension. To this end, the study will only focus on the students together with its accompanying web interface, students? registration details and academic results.
In its most common form, the wide application of computers in accessing remote files paved way for adopting of more superior ways of making information available to the millions of users. And it also exposes the researcher to the core about the intricacies of database programming for web, an all round technology.
Although economic constraints did not stop this project room completion, yet adequate funds would have aided the provision of industrial standard hardware and software. The limitations encountered in this case are mainly based on the fact that the institution, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri does not have the necessary software and extended network of computers, that is, it lack the projected operational hardware. Nevertheless, the researcher simulated typical sceneries. Now, the last and not the least, the time to develop, test and implement the complete scenario was without unbearable sleepless night and frustration from public power supply.

API A term used to denote Application Programming Interface. An interface that is defined in terms of a set of functions and procedures, and enables a program to gain access to facilities within an application.
BYTE It is a fixed number of bits that can be treated as a unit by the computer hardware. It is a unit of storage capable of holding a single character equal to 8 bits, large amount of memory are referred in terms of kilobytes (1,024 bytes), megabytes (1,048,576 bytes), and gigabytes (1,073,741,824 bytes).
BANDWIDTH The amount of data or signal that can be transmitted in a transmission medium or media in a given time. It is measured in bits per second (bps) for digital devices and Hertz (HZ) for analog devices.
COUNTER Keeps track of how many times a web page is visited.
DOWNLOAD TIME The time it takes foe a web page to be completely visible on the computer screen.
FILE SIZE How large the file containing the data is usually measured in kilobytes or megabytes. File size is used when referring to pages, HTML documents and any other type of file.
FRAMES Formatting a page so that more than one HTML document is visible on the screen at the same time.
HOME PAGE The main and first page of a website, containing introductory information about the facility that has been accessed, together with links to the actual details of services or information.
HTML An abbreviation for Hypertext Mark-Up Language. A form of SGML (standard generalized mark up language) intended for use on the World Wide Web. It is used to create documents for the World Wide Web.
HTTP Hypertext transfer protocol. An application level protocol with the lightness and speed, necessary for distributed collaborative hypermedia information systems. It transfers hypertext requests and information between servers and browsers.
INTERNET The global information network that now links a very substantial fraction of the world?s computer networks.
INTRANET A private network setup by an organization or company that resembles the World Wide Web, but which is inaccessible by external users.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 OVERVIEW OF THE EXISTING SYSTEM
This passenger manifest information (PMI) is a kind of records that help individual flight to organized their passenger in a flight. This record in the flight. This record help them to know the members of passenger in the flight, without their records they can known the numbers of passenger in the flight. So the passenger manifest information contained the:

From passenger traveling on flight with sosoliso airline (e.g., during the sosoliso airline disaster family assistance act of December 10th 2005. this law was passed to address the difficult associated with notification of the families in the aftermath of sosoliso airline crashes). This proposal is also being issued to fulfill a recommendation contained in the initial and final report of families that has be affect in the crashes. This passenger manifest information (PMI), is used to point out identify data elements that may point to a passenger who represents a security risk. Once highlighted, analytical specialists can them manually review these records and identify those passengers who should be subjected to additional screening upon their arrival.
1.2 DESCRIPTION AND ANALYSIS OF THE EXISTING SYSTEM
This study is all about the passengers manifest information (PMI) which is a records of individual passenger in the flight.
The researcher visited sosoliso airline and find out that the passenger manifest information contained the records of passenger (e.g., full name, date of birth and or social security number, emergency contact and telephone number). Which help them to organize their flight.
The examination of the existing system to determine what must be accomplished and the best method of accomplishing the necessary operation is know as SYSTEM ANALYSIS. The stages involved in the system analysis are listed below.
(1) The type of processing to be done by the system
(2) The input data ?captured? for the system
(3) The output required
(4) The file which could be kept and used
(5) The nature of processing i.e. its logic procedure stage and frequency.
1.3 METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION
The researcher visited sosoliso airline and find out that the passenger manifest information (PMI) contained the records of passengers, which help them to organize their flight.

The researcher use the method of unstructured interview to carried out the research to know about the passenger manifest information in sosoliso airline. Warehouse is where goods and commodities are kept for further clearance. Narrowing it to Nigeria Ports Authority, there are many warehouses where imported consignment and goods are stored. This is cleared by carrying the billing papers from post to post, waiting and wasting much time in seeing who is in charge. Goods that takes about two weeks to berth into the country takes another two weeks to get cleared. This makes the importers and the clearing agents to run from port to port, in search of where the goods were kept.
The introduction of computer in warehousing will enable importers know which and where their goods are kept, as it will always be stipulates on the bill of laden papers. Computer is hereby seen as a way of handling, by systematically organizing them, recording or making notations on them, following up with the appropriate action or the like.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The processing of billing papers for clearance of goods, with manual method has led to omission of many records that ought to be included. This is caused by inaccuracy of the manual billing process.
Due to the inefficiency in manual billing process, billing papers are carried from post to post, waiting for who is in charge, thereby delaying the goods that suppose to be delivered.
More so, goods are not delivered on time, due to the fact, that goods that takes about two weeks to get into the country, still takes another two weeks to be cleared.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF STUDY
The purpose of this is study is to

2. Finding out the effect of this in Nigeria Ports Authority

4. Identify prospects for solution of problems.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This research, base on the problem and prospect of using computer in Nigeria Ports Authority, will help to develop interest towards computer.
The findings of this research will also help the management to increase the income generation of Nigeria Ports Authority and smooth running of the warehouse in general.
1.5 SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The researcher will identify all the problems, including the financial constraints of the problems, encounter with the use of manual billing clearance in warehousing.
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
Due to the financial constraints of the researcher and lack of time, the researcher is concentrating the study in only Nigeria Ports Authority Lagos.

1.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
This research is on Development of an online examination system. Case study: YABATECH. Online Examination System is a web base application that establishes a network between an institution and candidates or students. Institutes enter on the site and input questions they want in the examination, these questions are displayed as a test to the eligible students. The answers enter by the students are then evaluated and their score is calculated and saved. This score then can be accessed by the institutes to determine the number of students that passes the examination and evaluate their performance. Online examinations are conducted through the internet or in an intranet if within the Organization to test a remote candidate. Candidate is given a limited time to answer the questions and after the time expiry the answer paper is disabled automatically and answers is sent to the examiner. Online Examinations System provides a platform to select eligible candidate out of numerous candidate that participate in an examination. The institution has an administrator who keeps an eye on the overall functioning of the system.
The online examinations system is application software, which aims at providing services to the institution with an option of selecting the eligible students or candidate without any politics or partiality. Online examinations are conducted through the internet or in an intranet (if within the Organization) to test a remote candidate. Candidate is given a limited time to answer the questions and after the time expiry the answer paper is disabled automatically and answers is sent to the examiner. The examiner will evaluate answers, either through automated process or manually and the results will be sent to the candidate through email or made available in the web site. Online examination system will help to evaluate student’s achievement, and helps to give fair scores. The main objective of Online Examination System is to efficiently evaluate the candidate thoroughly through a fully automated system that not only saves lot of time but also gives fast results. For teachers, it would give flexibility to fit their needs and to the students there will be no loss in time for the need of using extra thing like paper, pen etc. This system also focuses on how to provide a secure environment for Online Examination.
In this study, YABATECH has been chosen as the case study. Examination in YABATECH is conduct manually. During examination students always looking for center, due to this some student who are not familiarize with the school infrastructure miss the examination. Every morning before the examination commence, the school will paste each examination center on the notice board.
1.1 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Yaba College of Technology is a one of the leading tertiary institution in Nigeria, and every year many candidate are apply to the institution and examination is conducted manually i.e. paper base system for the entrance examination and the school examination. Due to this manual examination process, every semester result is always delayed towards the next semester examination. This manual process of conducting examinations has led to some problems in YABATECH. These includes the following:
- Delay in releasing of result.
- Examination malpractice.
- Changing of result.
- Students meeting lecturer for help.
- Insufficient question paper and answer sheet in the examination hall.
1.2 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The purpose of this system is to eradicate the manual operation and to reduce the costs associated with conducting examination in YABATECH, and to achieve total automation of examination process, to provide online facility examination for YABATECH.
1.3 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
Online examination system will improves the conduct of examination in Yaba College of Technology. The objective of this system includes:
- To save the time of examination section and minimize the use of manpower.
- To store the logs of candidates and their marks and backup for future use.
- To reduce paper work.
- To reduce the hectic job of assessing the answers given by the candidates.
- To conduct examination in an efficient manner and reduce the tedious paper work.
- To generate various reports almost instantly when and where required
1.4 BENEFIT OF THE STUDY
Online examination system will be of benefit to student and Yabatech. This system will reduce the cost of conducting examination in Yabatech. With this system, Yabatech will experience free and fair examination. Students are able to access their result on time. The system will help students to maximize their potential since they know that the examination is computer based and there will be no cheating.

This online examination system is a web based application which is limited to YABATECH examination system. It can also be useful in all academics institution. This system will have the ability to Response to candidate request if necessary. Online Examination system will reduce the hectic job of assessing the answers given by the candidates. Online Examination system suits the need of Educational Institutions such as Primary, Secondary, Colleges, Professional and Vocational Institutes, Universities or Training Academies.
1.6 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This research is all about web based software development for academic institution system. With this, software development methodology needs to be adopted in the research. General standard software development approach includes the following:

The data methodology approach adopted for the data collection of this system is interview. During the interview process both staff and students were interview in order to know the challenges they faced from the existing examination system. The technique adopted for the data analysis is the descriptive statistical methodology. Flow chart is used to break the system design in to module in order to comprehend what the structure of this software will look like. In my system coding, programming language that support the operation of the develop system was used. PHP is the preferred programming language used for the realization of this software because of the dynamic features of the language. PHP MYSQL is a web based programming language that supports the features of the software. Microsoft structure query language is used for the data manipulation of the software. Microsoft structure query language is database application software. In the system testing, in order to ascertain the operation of the software, module testing was used. This system was implemented in YABATECH.

An estimated 1.2 million people are killed in road crashes every year and many as 50 million supper injuries. The world health organization believe that these figures could increase by more them half over the next 20year unless there is a firm commitment to road safety and accident prevention, especially in Nigeria, most adult will know of someone who has been killed or injured in a road traffic accidents. It is a dad fact that many of these accidents and their consequences will have been avoidable.
Therefore this project, computerized traffic offence documentation system will help to keep records of all traffic offences committed by road users and also maintain the databases of the commission (F R S C)

The present system of traffic offence documentation system has a lot of problems which are mentioned below:
TIME: - going by the present system of operation, time is consumed in the manual handling of operation involves in road traffic documentation.
COST: - this is the greatest problem of the federal Road safety commission. The commission ends t o loose a lot of money running the agency manually.
DOCUMENT INSGRITY: This is viewed in the contest of the safety, in the contest of the safety, in validity of the records in the document files used in the report generation. In term of safety, the native of the system makes it vulnerable to left, fire or accidental distruction. This makes the system in safe as the time needed to replace lost data or files is enormously large.

This study is designed to help federal Read safety commission to document all road traffic offences incurred by the road users.
This study also tries to give an in-depth looking in the easiest and most effective way for the growth and development of the federal Road safety commission of Nigerian in order to control and render its activities to the Nigerian and other coteries.

The design and implementation of computer based household inventory system will focus on the practical job on valuation proper and report work the activities of presidential hotel in terms of professional and agreement certificate of value will be stated in the system design the system will aim at bringing to view the step of the process of valuation in the household inventory practice.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1.5 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The research project was only restricted to the department of household inventory penitential hotel Enugu. The following was done. Periodic physical checking of household system with the view to ascertain the level of each item keeping an accurate record of all entries insurance and transfer of these items purchase I order of the needed items and the determination and review of the inventory maintenance level.
The research was limited to the mentioned department since it has direct concern to the research topic. The report cannot only be applied to presidential hotel Enugu household inventory but also to any other establishment that wise to go an computerization of their household inventory control section this research was carried out simultaneously with normal academic studies moreover due to the rush to end the semester as fast as possible there was no time for a comprehensive research work.

1.6 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

Therefore the design and implementation of a computer based household inventory system will not only benefit the researcher and value or property owner but will also create and improved system of marketing agent and environment as follows.
The producer will find this hard value very much important because it will make his job feasible in course of any field (in course of any) work made on valuation and report to be presentable he will not need to expose his valuation report to anybody outside the business contract and the report will be made within shortest space of time. It will be a business ascribe as just in time business report where the need for filling report will be eliminated entirely. The property owner is at the better position to benefit because he will get the value of this property without much involvement and at every instance he stands to know precisely the value at which his property worthy.
This work aim at encouraging every principal agent independent contractors and other associate members to accept the need to be computerized in all their practical job since the marketing agents will find it interesting to always present the household inventory business on line as regards the status of real property in market at every given time.

Because the system will given information regarding items which have fallen to re-order level and can also be programmed to issue replenishment order thereby conquering the problems encountered in the manual system where the reordering system is overloaded.
Moreover the research work will be of immense benefit to the future researcher on the same problem because my approach to the fact finding was not a passive exercise rather all information were examined and challenged.
