Factors influencing the use of traditional bone setters (TBS) services among residents of Nnewiichi in Nnewi north local government area.
Abstract
This study was designed to find out the factors that influence the use of traditional bone setters (TBS) services among residents of Nnewichi in Nnewi, North local government area of Anambra state. It was an analytical study in which 120 questionnaires were distributed and 110 were received. 72% were females whole 27.3% were males. The study revealed the factors that influence the patronization of traditional bone setters include culture and belief, fear of amputation, that orthopedics waste so much time and that they are not reliable. The findings also revealed that there are many complications associated with visits to the TBS and that the respondents are aware of the complications. The researcher therefore recommends that proper attention, education, and training should be given to traditional bone setters in order to combat and prevent complications and also that door-to-door step awareness should be employed with the involvement of the government and professional health workers so as to achieve a better subset and save life.
