Abstract
This project focuses on the Implications of on-the-job-training on the career prospects of secretaries in private organizations in Ekiti state. The purpose of this study is to know the impact of on-the-job training on the careers of secretaries in private organizations, to determine the importance of on-the-job training on the secretaries career in private organizations and to determine the effectiveness of on-the-job training on organizations productivity. In all, 40 questionnaires were distributed to the population of the study, which were duly filled and retrieved back by the researcher. Simple random techniques was adopted for the study. Questionnaire was used as an instrument for gathering data and simple percentage frequency was adopted to analyse the data gathered. Findings revealed that on-the-job training prevents skill obsolescence and it increases secretary’s ability while performing his/her duty, as well as the quality of products and services of the organization improves. Based on findings, the study concluded that there are on-the-job training needed by secretaries in private organizations which provides better performance in their office procedures and operations. However, the study recommends that the administrator in private organizations should endeavour to afford their secretaries on-the-job training opportunities through which they could be retrained in emergent innovations and techniques in the world of work, and secretarial staff should at any time be ready to go for on-the-job training not minding the inconveniences it might cause them.
