Isolation and identification of fungi in Nana hostel at Bayero university, Kano.
Abstract
This study is aimed at isolating and identifying fungi from borehole water in Nana hostel, Bayero University Kano. The fungal species were isolated from water. The isolation of fungi from the water was implemented by inoculating (1ml) from serial dilution on potato dextrose agar (PDA). The plates were kept at room temperature for 5 to 7 days, then fungal colonies were observed and pure cultures have maintained the identification of fungi genus level was carried out by using microscopic examinations depending on colony color, shape, hyphae, condia, conidiophores and arrangement of spores. Four fungal species were identified as: Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus flavus and cladosporium cladosporioides.
