Abstract
This project material looks at the Knowledge and practice of quality assurance among nurses working in accident and emergency unit of University of Ilorin teaching hospital, Kwara state. This is a descriptive research into knowledge and practice of quality assurance among Emergency Nurses at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. The study reviewed some related works of literature which formed the basic framework of reference of the study. A simple random sampling technique was used in selecting 50 respondents for the study. Data were collected using 28 item closed and open-ended questionnaires which were analyzed in percentages, frequencies, pie charts and bar charts. The study revealed a high level of awareness among respondents. Some current practices include the use of the nursing process, nursing audit, self-evaluation and documentation. It was discovered that factors like: lack of instruments, human resources, poor supervision and lack of training affect the implementation of quality assurance. Based on the findings, the following recommendations were made: commitment to providing the best quality care to the patient by the nurses, the hospital management should be committed to training all nurses on the concept and the government should set up professional standards of care in all health care facilities.
