Abstract
This research work is on Prevalence and distribution of riots among senior secondary schools in north western Nigeria. This study intended to investigate the prevalence and distribution of riots among senior secondary schools in North Western Nigeria. The descriptive survey research design was used to achieve the researcher’s objectives. To collect data, the researcher used self developed questionnaires and interview schedules, which he personally administered to the subjects. The population of this study was all the forty five public secondary schools in North western Nigeria. From which he selected 15 schools that had experienced student riots. The subjects of the study were the head teachers, teachers, students, prefects and members of school management bodies. Purposive sampling procedure was used to get the required sample. To draw conclusions, data was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The major findings of the study are that secondary schools use police intervention, punishment, suspension, expulsion, investigation and dialogue to resolve student riots in their schools. The major recommendation of the study is that the government should come up with clear guidelines for managing student riots in public secondary schools
