Abstract
Sabicea calycina is used in traditional medicine for various health problems, this research is aimed at investigating the quantitative phytochemical constituent and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) of n-hexane fraction of the roots and twigs of S.calycina, in order to substantiate its therapeutic use in traditional medicine. The roots and twigs were sun-dried and pulverized.n-hexane extraction was carried out using soxhlet extraction method. Phytochemical analyses were carried out and the crude extract was subjected to GC-MS for identification of the bioactive compounds present in the roots and twigs of S. calycina. The phytochemical analysis showed the presence of the following phytochemicals Alkaloids and Flavonoids. The GC-MS results revealed the presence of 22 bioactive compounds like 4H-1-benzopyran-4-one-2-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-7-hydroxy-, Dibenz[d,f]cycloheptanone,2,3,9-trimethoxy-, Zoxalamine, 2-Benzoxalamine,7-chloro-, Taxifolin, 4H-1-Benzopyran-4-one,2-(3,4-dihydroxphhenyl)-2,3-dihydro-3,5,7-trihydroxy-,3-(Prop-2-enoloxy)deocane,1-Heptanol,2,6,10-trimethyl-,Octadecane-6-methyl-, Tetradecane,2,6,10-trimethyl, Ethanol,2-(octadecycloxy)-, 7-Methyl-Z-tetradecen-1-ol acetate, Flavonone,3,5,7-trihydroxy-4-methoxy-, Hesperetin, Acridin-9-yl-(2,4-dimethyl-phenyl)-amine, (10-Methyl-10H-acredine-9-ylidene)-O-tolyl-amine, Flavianic acid, 1-Hydroxy-2,4-dinitroanthraquinone, Estra-1,3,5(10)-triene-17ß-ol, Hexadecanoic acid,2-(octadecyloxy) ethyl ester, 9-10-Anthracenedione,1,2,6-trihydroxy-, and 9,10-Anthracenedione,1,2,4-trihydroxy-. These results indicated that S.calycina possesses bioactive compounds. These findings thus justify the use of S.calycina in the prevention, management and treatment of various health disorders.
