Socio-economic determinant of village extension agent use of information and communication technology in extension services in Tarka local government area of Benue state.
Abstract
The research was carried out on the assessment of the usage of information and communication technologies usage among village extension workers in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State. Representative samples of village extension workers were collected randomly from communities within the study area. Data was collected from the respondents using research questionnaires distributed to 100 village extension workers who served as the sample size. Data were subjected to descriptive statistics and regression analysis. Results of the research revealed that extension workers have access to some information and communication technologies such as radio, mobile phones and television with little or no access to faculties like the telephone, computer, email, camera, audio recorder/player and remote sensing equipment, overhead projector etc. The access to ICTs as illustrated by the hypothesis testing is highly affected by the socioeconomic characteristics of the village extension agents. .
