Abstract
Statistical investigation of the causes of high reported cases of diabetes. This study is aimed at examining age and body mass index as potential factors encouraging the huge reported cases of diabetes in Nigeria in this 21st century. Using blood sugar level as a measure of a patient being diabetic or not, the study examined the profile of 47 reported cases at the 3 Battalion Army Barrack Medical Clinic, Effurun, Delta State, Nigeria. the data were analyzed using simple regression analysis and the result revealed that age is an efficient factor that affects the incidence of increased blood sugar level which may result in an event of type 2 diabetes among people. The study failed to acknowledge that patients’ body mass index positively relates to cases of diabetes. It was therefore concluded that age is a threat to individuals especially when the risk of diseases such as diabetes is considered. It is concluded that the more an individual ages, the more chances they stand to be diabetic if their blood sugar level and cholesterol is not properly managed.
