Abstract
Statistical study of factors affecting students academic performance – case study of Federal University of Technology Owerri. In this study, we examined several factors that could affect the academic performance of students of Federal University of Technology, Owerri. A structured questionnaire was administered to a sample of 360 students of FUTO. The data obtained were analyzed using simple percentages and chi-square test of independence. The study revealed that age, level, and faculty affects the academic performance of the students. SPSS 20.0 version was also used for the data analysis which enabled us to get the percentage, mean and standard deviation values. From the analysis, it was evident that all the variables have an influence on students’ academic performance and should not be ignored by educators, students and decision-makers. It is hoped that these findings will help the individuals, lecturers, career and counseling centers and university administrators to put in place mechanisms that will mitigate the effects of this stress at the university..
