Abstract
This work is a descriptive study which focuses on finding out the”Challenges Facing Confidentiality of Patients’ Health Information and How to Improve on It (A Case Study of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra State)”. The objective of this study is to ascertain if non-orientation of health information managers on the ethics and policies guiding the confidentiality of patients’ health information exacerbates disclosure to those, not on the health team of the patient. It is obvious that challenges facing confidentiality arise when principles of confidentiality are not adhered to. This study addresses security measures that need to be taken to protect the privacy of patient’s health information. If health information managers are well oriented on the ethics of health information confidentiality, it will help decrease the rate of breach of privacy and inappropriate use and disclosure of health information. This study is significantly useful to hospitals, health information managers and other health professionals and this study will also add to available literature for further research on the topic. The research methodology adopted is a descriptive research design. A well-structured questionnaire was used for data collection simple frequency counts and percentage were used for data analysis while chi-square technique was used to test the research hypotheses.
