Abstract
The main objective of this study is to examine the impact of human resource development on productivity in the Nigerian Civil Service (A case study of Nasarawa State Civil Service Commission). the research adopted a survey method of research and questionnaires were used as an instrument for primary data collection, while secondary data is collected from the exploitation of past works on the same field of study. Findings from the study revealed among others that Political influence constraints the development process of the Nasarawa State civil service commission, and that Majority of the appointments into the Nasarawa State civil service are influenced by politicians. the study, therefore, recommends that there is a need to get rid of the godfatherism syndrome nepotism and favoritism so that the appointment process should be done by the commission alone. In addition, periodic monitoring and evaluation of productivity level of staff should be clearly carried out to ascertain their proficiency in other respective fields and to make changes where necessary.
