Abstract

This project looks at The impact of information and communication technology on the job performance of workers in tertiary institutions in Ekiti state. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of ICT on individual work productivity, and to find out the impact of ICT on staff development in tertiary academic institutions. Questionnaire was used as an instrument for gathering data and simple percentage frequency was adopted to analyse the data gathered. In all, 80 questionnaires were personally administered to the respondents out of the staff in four selected tertiary institutions in Ekiti State that made the population. Random sampling technique was adopted in selecting the respondents that represent the total population of the study. Findings revealed that through ICT facilities, staff can be more productive, as it impacted staff effectiveness on the work accomplished, the management encourages the use of ICT support services for orientation of newly employed staff in tertiary institutions and its effectiveness and efficiency is the key element of individual work productivity. Based on the  findings, the study concluded that ICT is considered to be one of the pillars upon which quality education for all can indeed become a reality, because of its unique capacity for bringing the world to even the most remote and disadvantaged communities. However, the study recommends that the management in academic tertiary institutions should enforce keeping records on computers for easy access and the management should encourage the application of ICT (such as computer) in examination conduct, marking and result released on-line.
