Abstract
Loan recovery has been a problem facing Nigerian Commercial bank of which Access Bank Plc is Included, the impact of these problems of loan default by bank customers and poor management on the side of the bank. Problems of loan recovery in Nigeria Commercial bank have been chosen as the research topic in order to find a plausible solution to the problem. The research employed virtually possibly techniques within her reach to elicit authentic information from the case study of Access Bank Plc on the problems of loan recovery in Nigeria Commercial Bank. The problems encountered by Access Bank Plc in its loan recovery activities are caused by banks customers, Bank management and staffs. It was concluded that Access Bank Plc recover loans given to their customers through the control section of the regional advances department that are in charge of monitoring and repayment of loans. Finally, the researcher recommends that the bank management and staff should consider the character of the borrower, economic viability of the project, the purpose of the loan, financial data or records of the loan beneficiary before proposal are approved to ensure effective, efficiencies loan recovery. Relevant data were collected from both primary and secondary sources. Questionnaires were the main primary data collection instrument employed while data from various relevant publications constituted the sources of secondary data. Upon the analysis of data, the following conclusions were drawn that problem of loan default stemmed from the fact that there is unavailability of security to be disposed by banks to realize funds. Also, customer’s attitude towards loan payment on the basis of the above findings, it was recommended that commercial Banks should use some risk control measures to guide against` loan default.
