Abstract

This project looks at Knowledge attitude and consumption of alcoholic beverages among male students of college of administration and business studies, Bida, Niger state. The consumption of alcoholic beverages is likely to contribute to an increase in liver cancer and hypertension. The main purpose of this study was to know the knowledge, attitude and consumption of alcoholic beverages among males students of the college of administration and business studies (CABS) Bida Niger State. Stratified and simple random sampling techniques were used to select 200 respondents in the study area data on the socio-demographic characteristics of respondents on alcoholic drinks, health implication of excessive frequent intake of alcoholic beverage attitude of participants towards alcoholic beverage and frequency of alcohol consumption of beverages were collected using a well-structured questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed descriptive statistics with statistical package for social science versions 2.0 (SPSS) the result showed that 66.5% of the respondents were between 18-25years of age while 15% were 30 and above 47% of the respondents were single while 44% were married 71% agreed that alcohol is a drug while 29% do not agree that alcohol while 34% do drugs 66% takes alcohol while 34% do not take alcohol. 84% are aware that excessive intake of alcohol beverages can lead to physical and health hazards while 16% are not aware. 88% are aware that intoxication from alcoholic beverages attracts negative effects and reaction but they still take it 58% agreed that it is wrong to entertain friends with an alcoholic beverage while 10% were recorded for undecided. The result also shows that 44% is an agreement that alcoholic drinks are social drink while 9% are agreed that alcoholic drinks are good for health. In addition, the result also shows that 40% Eru-jeje are consumed once in a week while 7.5% of red bull are consumed per week.
