Abstract

The role of library commitee in the development of an academic library. This research work is aimed at finding out the role of the library committee in the development of an academic library: a case study of Imo state university. The benefits problems and reasons for the development of the committee are discussed. Questionnaires are sent to IMSU library and were collected back which is the major instrument for data collection. Opinions of people were gotten from questionnaires which was used in the frequency table. Recommendations are made by the researcher on the ways and means of solving some of the problem hindering the development of the library committee in academic library. The totality of the findings based on the responses of staff of IMSU makes the researcher to make the following recommendation. 1. The powers of the committee and then chief librarians should be widened to enable them to reach out to the outside world for more information and more books. 2. More funds should be allocated to the committee to be able to fund the acquisition of more information materials and updated books, papers and non-book materials. 3. The facilities of the academic library of Imo state IMSU should be made available to the reading public and individual researchers. 4. The chief librarian should have free hand to run the library as a professional in the area of professional duties and day to day administration of the library.
