Description
Abstract
This project looks at Library co-operation in academic libraries. It is a fact that most even the generously funded libraries can claim self-sufficiency. These materials are mirage for any library. This makes the idea of sharing resources amongst libraries ideal. As a result of this, library co-operation becomes the panacea in which every library needs to be afloat amidst problems of budget cut-backs, increasing volume of literature greater demand on library resources and services etc. The issue of cooperation among academic libraries has been raised by several individuals but is yet to gain acceptance at the management levels of the various libraries concerned. There is no doubt that such factors as lack of finance, personnel, the paucity of collections and technical problems, etc. are militating against the full establishment of co-operation schemes. The survey showed that the libraries help one another on the basis of sympathy and not because any co-operation exists. There is no formalized resource sharing program among them, nor they have, as a team any co-operation scheme with any co-operate body in or outside Owerri.
