Description
This research work appraises the post reform of commercial bank lending policies towards economic development of Nigeria. The researcher has identified the reasons, objectives, significance of the post reform of commercial bank lending and the problems which intercontinental bank and United Bank of Africa faced in the implementation of the reform programme. The research work also identified the roles of commercial bank, the factors influencing commercial bank lending and the principles guiding commercial bank lending in Nigeria. It was noticed that bank reform which stand as a remedy for financial sector stability has not increased the performance of banks but has contributed marginally to the growth of the real sector for sustainable development. Primary and secondary method of data collection were employed which include distribution of questionnaire, interviews and observation. Data was presented and analyzed using simple percentage while chi- square was used to interpret the hypothesis stated in chapter four the following findings were made That commercial bank lending contributes positively to economic development of Nigeria. That there is a positive relationship between commercial bank lending and her level of profitability. Finally, I recommend that commercial banks including intercontinental bank and UBA make use of the five (5) cannons of lending in determining the ability and credit worthiness of the customer.
