Abstract
This project looks into An assessment of preventive discipline as a tool for effective performance in organizations – a study of Federal Polytechnic Bida.
Preventive discipline is an important organizational dynamics. Its success or failure can be of great effect on other aspects of organization dynamics i.e training, motivation, moral, performance e.t.c. the study is aimed at appraising the nature and extent of staff indiscipline and its effects in Bida polytechnics. Data were sourced from primary and secondary sources, the primary data were sourced through questionnaire drew on the academic staff of the federal polytechnic Bida, journals, and books and so on. These data were presented and analyzed to test the two hypotheses postulated using the table. Frequency count and percentages. The finding shows inconsistency on the part of those responsible for taking disciplinary action when necessary. The implication of all these revealed in the study is that the moral, as well as the performance of the staff, are being affected. The study, however, recommended that the institution should adopt the idea of red-hot-stove theory approach to discipline also, honest and hardworking staff should be encouraged by rewarding them.
