ABSTRACT

This project presents a simple circuit controlled traffic light system. The proposed traffic light system is constructed base on a boost bulk component equipped with a circuit logic controller to, improve the efficiency of traffic light.

A traffic light system is a lighting signal positioned at road intersection or pedestrian crossing that assigns the right of way to road users by the use of traffic in standard colors.

The system work by connecting a constant D.C power supply source from a battery.

In chapter one, introduction of traffic light, background of the study, significance of traffic light system scope of study, general principles of traffic light system and principle of operations with diagram will be discussed.

Further more, in chapter two, the literature review, types of traffic light, timing, length, conventional lighting systems mounting, traffic signals advantages and disadvantage shall be discussed.

Chapter three gives the description of all the circuit component and connection of the component.

Chapter four talk about the testing/measurement of the system the observation make and precaution taken.

Chapter five dwelt on recommendation and conclusion.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0INTRODUCTION

The most vital, aspect if road transpiration to day is a save and secure arrival a destination. Thus is the reason fore the reliance on the safety features of the road, the most, prominent of which is the traffic light which was invited in 1920 by a Detroit police officer Willam L. Potts.

The purpose of the traffic lighting design is for future construction of this project on our light ways or even at the Fidei Polytechnic school gate.

The Red led represent stop the yellow represent READY CAUTION and the Green led represent Go

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In the mid 1990s cost effective traffic light lamp using light emitting diodes IED was developed. Prior to that time traffic light were designed using incandescent or halogen light bulbs. Unlike the incandescent based lamp this system consist if an array of LEDS, arranged in various patterns, when viewed from a distance, the array appears as a continuous light source. LED-Based lamp has numerous advantages over incandesces lamp

i. They have much longer life span; their replacement is measured in year rather than months.

ii. The ability to display multiple colour and patterns from the same lamp individual LED. Element can be enable or disable and different colors LED can be mixed in the same lamp.

The operational expenses of LED. Based signals are far lower than. Equivalemincandesam base light. As a result most new traffic light deployments have been implemented using LED Based Lamp, many of the more exotic. Traffic signals would that be possible to construct without wing LED technology. However, colour changing LED are still in their infancy.

1. 2 SIGINFICANCE OF TRAFFIC LIGHT SYSTEMTIC

In the country, people need traffic light and stop sign to slow down drives from moving over speeding two fast. If there were no traffic light or stop sign people lives would be in danger.

With stop signs and traffic light people have a tendency to drive slower and look out for people walking in the middle of the road.

Traffic light is very important to a city or town because it helps to prevent road accidents.

1.3 SCOPE OF STUDY

Traffic light are, standard control sign used. In cities and large town to control the flow up traffic and minimize accidents.

The scope of this, is for the purpose of practical demonstration for final year project in national diploma ND and to enlighten the school management on how it could be improved upon, and used in the school gate for checking vehicles moving in and of the school.

1.4 GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF TRAFFIC LIGHT SYSTEM.

Illumination of the green light allows traffic to proceed in the direction denoted.

Illumination of the amber/yellow light means if safe to do so prepare to stop all the intersection.

Illuminations of red signals prohibit any traffic from proceeding in the direction denoted.
